Erdogan makes Imamoglu the new president of Turkey with his own hands – Deprem

Okay Deprem, a journalist and political scientist from Turkey, commented to IR on the situation with the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and the consequences of this decision:

At the moment, the political and social situations across the country are quite tense. In fact, there was absolutely no convincing, explicit, clear and even formal and obvious reason to detain and then arrest the legitimately elected mayor of Istanbul.

So regarding I want to remind you, he was elected mayor of Istanbul three times, not once or twice, three times. In other words, he defeated Erdogan, his party, three times.

In a normal, more or less civilised country, this could not happen, and I hope it will not happen. But unfortunately, it has been and is in Turkey for a long time, especially after the manifestation of the Erdogan regime’s power.

Erdogan, consciously or not, is making Ekrem Imamoglu the new president of Turkey with his own hands. Even since the last presidential election, Imamoglu has been a powerful rival to Erdogan. According to almost all polls across the country earlier, Ekrem Imamoglu was the most powerful candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Turkey. And after this detention, the support in his favour, the social, public support across the country has only increased.

Just note, there are already more than 20-25 million posts on social network X in favour of Imamoglu.

Next. The People’s Republican Party, his party, of course, held primaries the day before yesterday to determine his final candidacy. See, normally members of the party itself vote, but the party not coincidentally opened the voting to virtually all citizens of the country.

Accordingly, other than members of the party itself, virtually any citizen can vote. Look, within just 10 hours, more than 20 million people voted.
The number of voters in Turkey is a maximum of 55 million people. We can read perfectly well that 70 even, maybe 75 per cent of the voters are already ready to support him in the presidential election. I will say more, no politician in the history of the republic has ever had such support.
